The New Orleans Museum of Art is seeking applicants for the position of Maintenance Technician. The Maintenance Technician will perform overall maintenance to all areas of the Museum and is an integral member of the Facilities Team.                                         

JOB SUMMARY: Performs a variety of work in the maintenance and repair of the building and grounds of NOMA and the Sculpture Garden including carpentry, minor electrical and plumbing, masonry, tile, plaster, painting, sheetrock, general equipment repairs, assembling and moving of office furniture, and daily inspections.  This person is also responsible for assisting with the setup, monitoring of, and take down of special events or functions, daily mail runs and package deliveries.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Carpentry- Performs basic rough and finish carpentry repairs to areas such as walls, doors, frames, office furniture, and shelving.
• Electrical- Performs basic repairs to outlets, switches, plate covers; and reporting unsafe electrical conditions to the building engineer and Facilities Manager.
• Plumbing- Performs basic plumbing repairs of leaking pipes, faucets, and clogged lines and drains.
• Masonry- Repair and replacement of loose or broken slate tiles, minor breaks of sidewalk and ramps, and caulking of masonry features of NOMA.
• Tile- Repair and replacement of marble and ceramic tiles throughout NOMA.
• Plaster- Minor repair and maintenance of plaster structures throughout NOMA.
• Painting- Applies and prepares various surfaces for painting, to include oil, latex, and stain.
• Responsible for collecting and bringing NOMA mail to various post offices and retrieving NOMA mail from Post Office.
• Must be able to work in crowds of noisy people in a pressure situation, particularly when handling multiple tasks and continue to have a strong commitment to safety.
• Must be able to adjust work to accommodate expected and unexpected changes.
• Coordination with the Facilities Manager on tasks and projects for NOMA
• Responsible for general maintenance duties as assigned.
• Responsible for maintaining all standards of service as it relates to museum standards.
• Demonstrate knowledge and expertise of   NOMA’s policies and procedures and confidentiality guidelines.
• Willingness to work nights and weekends for special events or programs

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school graduates or G.E.D. equivalent
• Two to Four years’ experience in maintenance.
•  Some Computer Skills
• Current Louisiana Driver's License

The Museum Gallery Attendant is a visitor service-oriented position that is responsible for safeguarding visitors, staff, volunteers, the collection and the physical facility. The Museum Gallery Attendant is responsible for monitoring gallery spaces and protecting the art while engaging with the public to answer questions and provide information about NOMA. Job Responsibilities

• Maintain posts assigned to observe and engage and to ensure individuals are safe
• Watch for and report irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and unsecure doors or windows and areas to be secured
• Serve as an advocate for the visitor while promoting the safety of the museum; communicate consistently with visitors to ensure a positive museum experience and assist visitors with use of museum educational resources and spaces
• Interact with visitors in a positive and welcoming manner, including providing directions and information related to the Museum and Sculpture Garden collections, public programs and events
• Conduct gallery checks and performs opening and closing procedures; including inspection of the assigned galleries and surrounding areas to guarantee there are no safety or security issues or concerns
• Enforce all museum policies in a friendly manner, ensure that all visitors entering the galleries have either purchased an admission ticket or are identified as staff or special guests
• Participate in daily briefings and attend regular training sessions for exhibitions, programming and other museum related events
• Remain informed and up to date regarding artwork on view; enhance the visitor experience through engaging in conversation when appropriate
• Maintain the highest level of professionalism in both behavior and appearance
• Perform other duties as assigned or required

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience with customer service and interest in visual arts and museum work
• High School diploma or GED; college, technical school, or experience in a position requiring safety or protective work is helpful
• Solid interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact with visitors of all ages, abilities, and economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds
• Ability to assert oneself when needed in order to enforce policies and protect artwork; maintain calm and professional demeanor for all visitor interactions
• First aid and CPR certification preferred; training will be provided

Job Summary

The Sculpture Garden Attendant (SGA) – Part-Time is an outdoor, guest-facing role responsible for monitoring the sculpture collection, engaging with the public, and supporting the daily operations of the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden. SGAs play a vital role in maintaining a welcoming and secure environment by protecting artworks, assisting visitors, and providing information about NOMA and its programs.

This position requires availability on weekends, holidays, and occasional special events, as assigned by the Sculpture Garden Manager. SGAs may also participate in informal programming and assist with special projects, including visitor education and light maintenance tasks.

Essential Job Functions

• Maintain assigned posts to observe and engage with visitors, ensuring the safety of individuals and artwork.

• Perform routine garden checks and opening/closing procedures, including locking/unlocking gates and inspecting areas for cleanliness and safety.
• Assist with routine or seasonal maintenance projects, such as gate upkeep, placard cleaning, raking, blowing entry areas, and graffiti removal and documentation.
• Enforce NOMA policies respectfully and consistently.
• Participate in daily briefings and attend training sessions related to exhibitions, events, and safety.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience in customer service and an interest in the visual arts and museum work.
• High school diploma or GED required; additional education or experience in safety/security roles preferred.

• Ability to remain calm and professional while assertively enforcing museum policies and protecting artwork and garden areas.
• First Aid and CPR certification preferred; training will be provided if needed.

This position performs routine custodial and general maintenance duties and supports the setup and breakdown of special events and programs.

The Facilities Attendant plays an important role in maintaining a clean, safe, welcoming, and professional environment for NOMA visitors, staff, volunteers, and guests while helping protect the Museum's facilities and art collection.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Clean and maintain Museum restrooms, public areas, floors, glass, and other assigned spaces on a daily basis, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, disinfecting, and other routine cleaning duties.
• Maintain all restroom facilities by cleaning and disinfecting fixtures and surfaces, keeping counters and floors clean and dry, cleaning mirrors, removing trash, and ensuring supplies are properly stocked and organized.
• Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the Sculpture Garden facilities and assigned exterior areas, including restrooms, walkways, and trash receptacles.
• Operate floor-care machines and other custodial equipment safely and properly in accordance with established procedures.
• Properly use and store cleaning products, chemicals, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with established safety procedures and manufacturer instructions.
• Monitor Museum and assigned exterior areas throughout the workday and promptly address or report spills, trash, debris, maintenance concerns, and other conditions that may affect visitor or employee safety, cleanliness, or appearance.
• Coordinate with the Facilities Manager regarding daily assignments, projects, maintenance needs, work priorities, and cleaning supplies, materials, equipment, or repairs needed to properly maintain Museum facilities.
• Perform general maintenance duties and assist with other facility-related projects as assigned and within the scope of the position.
• Assist with the setup and breakdown of furniture, equipment, and other materials for Museum events, programs, meetings, and special functions.
• During Museum events and functions, maintain the cleanliness and appearance of Museum facilities, restrooms, and assigned exterior areas, including trash and debris removal and prompt cleanup of spills.
• Work effectively and safely in crowded, noisy, and fast-paced environments; manage multiple responsibilities; and adjust work priorities to accommodate scheduled activities and unexpected facility or operational needs.
• Maintain NOMA's standards of cleanliness, safety, service, professionalism, and visitor experience; exercise sound judgment in the best interests of NOMA, its visitors, staff, facilities, and art collection; and exercise appropriate care when working in galleries and other areas containing artwork or sensitive Museum property.
• Follow NOMA policies, procedures, safety requirements, and confidentiality guidelines.
• Work nights, weekends, holidays, and special events as required by the Museum's operating and programming schedule and perform other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist with special projects and facility-related assignments as requested by the Facilities Manager or Museum leadership.
• Support other members of the Facilities team as operational needs require.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

·         High school graduates or G.E.D. equivalent

·         Previous housekeeping, custodial, janitorial, or facilities experience preferred;

two years of related experience is desirable.

·         General maintenance experience a plus.

·         Basic computer skills.

·         Ability to work independently, take initiative, and complete assigned   

responsibilities with appropriate follow-through.

·         Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

·         Ability to work collaboratively with Museum staff and other departments.
